Subject: CP2020 archive - Index and new information
Date: Thu, 10 Nov 1994 13:41:59 GMT

Welcome to the archive!
(Last updated - 10 November 1994)

Site: wais.com /pub/games/cyberpunk Administrator: [b--i--t] at [python.wais.com]
				 (alternate address: [t--er--a] at [agora.rdrop.com])

New information: The WWW site address has changed.
The general compression format has changed to gnuzip.
instructions and where to get it are under "NEW INFORMATION
	  ABOUT COMPRESSION" below.

Files are noted under the dates when they were archived, for easy reference.
For posting purposes, the copy of the Index posted will also have an
asterisk (*) beside all files added since the last posting.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

This index lists the files available for FTP, including a short description
of each. I'll try to keep it in the same order as the ls, but I might slip
up every so often. If you find something that needs to be added or needs
changing, or simply come up with a better way to say something, please email
me as [b--i--t] at [python.wais.com] and tell me so I can do any changes that might be
necessary. (For problems with wais itself, you can also email
[f t pmaster] at [wais.com.])

NEW INFORMATION ABOUT COMPRESSION: The gnuzip utility is an excellent and
tight compresser, and also can uncompress .Z files. It is available for VMS,
Unix, DOS and the Mac. You can ftp it from sunsite.unc.edu /pub/gnu/gzip
A VMS executable is available in ftp.spc.edu:[.macro32.savesets]gzip-1-*.zip
(use [.macro32]unzip.exe to extract).

HOW TO UNCOMPRESS .gz FILES:
ASCII texts are gzipped (thus the .gz appending) and should be easily
ungzipped on most systems, but if you can't do it, email me and I'll
send you an uncompressed version. (The Unix command for getting it back
to readable ascii is "gunzip <filename>".)
Other files are packed according to the originator's preference, so if
you don't understand something email me for an explaination. .zip files
are pkzipped (IBM) and .lha are packed with the Amiga compression utility.
If these files were also gnuzippable, I've done so for ease of transfer.
Certain files are in PostScript and require appropriate software to read.
These are suffixed ".ps" and require the PostScript program to view. As
ascii versions of these files become available they will also be archived
here. Due to space considerations, the PostScript files were *also*
gzipped, so they're suffixed .ps.gz and you'll need to gunzip them before
you can use them.
About .JPG - This is a picture file and requires appropriate software to view.
It also is gzippable, and thus will be suffixed .JPG.gz

On your Unix try "gunzip <filename>" and if that fails email me
and we'll figure it out. I will also gladly email files or uncompress them
on the archive for you - or even recompress them with `compress'. Just email
me and ask. If I don't know about a compression or zip utility, ask. I'll
find out for you.

SUBMISSIONS:
Any submissions to the archive should be put in wais.com /pub/incoming then
send email to [b--i--t] at [python.wais.com] telling me it's there, giving a desc
for this index, and adding any pertinent details. Text and uuencoded files
may also be emailed to me and I'll handle the ftp chores.
(Many thanks to Robert, Dan, James, peril and others for helping this
archive to be the largest CP2020 collection I can find on the Net.)

WORLD WIDE WEB: Much of the wais.com archive is ALSO available
via World Wide Web, thanks wholly to Paul Tobia. You'll find it at:
http://falcon.cc.ukans.edu/~heresy/cyber
My personal thanks to Paul for his effort and support, and especially
for the WWW site.
