The purpose of this FAQ is primarily to introduce newcomers to the
fudge-l mailing list.

Contents:
  1. Why a mailing list?
  2. What can we talk about?
  3. Where can I find FUDGE material?
  4. Does Steffan know about this?
  5. How do I send to the list, un/subscribe, etc?
* 6. Is there a Web page for FUDGE?

===========================

  1. Why a mailing list?

I've had several people ask me things like, "Why not just discuss
FUDGE on rec.games.design or rec.games.frp.misc with a subject of
     FUDGE: *?"

First, there are more aspects to FUDGE than designing new rules.
Deciding if a certain trait should be a gift or superpower, or
creating an NPC isn't game design.

Second, it has been my experience that r.g.f.m is already
over-crowded and doesn't get near the readership that the sum of
the individual mailing lists get. If r.g.f.m were the ideal place
to discuss all gaming issues that didn't fall into other r.g.f.*
groups, then lists like the Gamemaster's mailing list wouldn't be
very popular, but they are. Lists draw far more specific traffic
     than general "misc" news groups.

Third, the existence of a mailing list does not preclude using
Usenet. I suggest that any major rules development for FUDGE be
discussed on rec.games.design where it will get feedback from users
who aren't interested in actually using FUDGE.

  2. What can we talk about?

The fun part about running a campaign is that system-specific
issues flow directly into general issues that are unrelated to the
game system, so it's hard to draw the line between FUDGE and
non-FUDGE discussion. This list is for anything that seems
appropriate, including but not limited to: using and abusing FUDGE
rules, getting your players to try FUDGE without being intimidated
by the "loose" framework, using Other Companies products with
FUDGE, spell systems and lists for FUDGE, campaign settings for
     FUDGE, etc.

Of course some material such as campaign settings are not usable
ONLY with FUDGE, but it would be nice to see some works developed
with the same mind-set as FUDGE itself. (As long as FUDGE has been
available, it's sad that there is so little non-rules material
available. Many tout FUDGE as the ultimate system to support
freely distributable materials on the net, but very few are writing
     any.)

  3. Where can I find FUDGE material?

The Official FUDGE FAQ is available from
ftp://oz.plymouth.edu/pub/fudge/, along with FUDGE itself. It will
direct you to the current "official" distribution sites for FUDGE
     material.

  4. Does Steffan know about this?

Yes, he does. He's one of those that asked question #1, but he has
no objections to my running the list. At this writing, he is
subscribed to the list, as is Grey Ghost Games (seller of the
     printed FUDGE and FUDGE Dice).

  5. How do I send to the list, un/subscribe, etc?

To subscribe to the mailing list, send a message to
[m--r--o] at [southwind.net] with a body of 'subscribe fudge-l'. To
unsubscribe, send a message with a body of 'unsubscribe fudge-l'.
To learn more about the majordomo, a body of 'help' will get you
     the help file.

Messages intended for the list should be directed at
     [fudge l] at [southwind.net.]

* 6. Is there a Web page for FUDGE?

The Unofficial FUDGE Page no longer exists. Other more official
pages have been created, so I saw no need for it. Grey Ghost has a
     page at http://members.aol.com/ghostgames.
