Gambling on Von Daanen's World

All the games of chance in casinos on Von Daanen's World are

honest. This is to say that the house has the rules set to give

it some "small" advantage. This house percentage will be larger

or smaller depending upon the character's RAPID ODDS CALCULATION

skill,

RO % 01-29 30-50 51-75 76-100 101-120 121+

House % 32 16 8 4 2 1

The "standard" house percentage is 2% -- but this assumes that

the player is a good gambler (there are always sucker bets for

the ill-informed or stupid player).

One hour's play will typically cost the above specified house

percentage of the initial "player bank" (that amount that he is

willing to risk). Obviously, if this were the only possibility,

no one in his right mind would play -- the only ability a player

would have is to restrict how fast the house would win his money,

not whether or not it did so.

The following modifications are made to the "house percentage" on

an hour by hour basis:

Luck roll made, Rapid Odds Calculation skill roll NOT made: -1D4

Luck roll made, Rapid Odds Calculation skill roll made: -1D12

Luck roll NOT made, Rapid Odds Calculation skill roll NOT made: 0

Luck roll NOT made, Rapid Odds Calculation skill roll made: -1D8

Additional modifiers:

Rapid Odds Calculation skill roll is a CRITICAL: -2D10

Rapid Odds Calculation skill roll is a CLEAN: -1D6

Rapid Odds Calculation skill roll is a FUMBLE/CRIT: +1D3

Rapid Odds Calculation skill roll is a FUMBLE/CLEAN: +1D6

Rapid Odds Calculation skill roll is a FUMBLE/MAKE: +1D8

Rapid Odds Calculation skill roll is a FUMBLE/FAIL: +2D10

Rapid Odds Calculation skill roll is a FUMBLE/FUMBLE: +1D100

Example: Mikhail, with a LUC of 13, starts with an initial bank

of 500 smu. In the first hour, he fails to make his LUC as a

percentage. Further, his Rapid Odds Skill roll (52%) is not

made. His "bank" is reduced by 8% (40 smu). He now has 460 smu.

In the second hour, he again fails his LUC roll, but MAKES his

Rapid Odds roll -- then the 1D8 roll is 6, so the bank's advan-

tage is 8-6=2%, and Mikhail loses another 9 smu (leaving him 451

smu). In the third hour, Mikhail's Rapid Odds roll is a 100 -- a

fumble. This is followed by a 94, a fail. His Luck roll was

again not made, so the bank's advantage is 8+2D10 = 20 this time,

and Mikhail loses another 90 smu. He now has 361 smu. In the

fourth hour, Mikhail makes his Luck roll and crits on his Rapid

Odds skill -- and the house percentage becomes 8-2D10-1D6 = -8,

and Mikhail finally wins something (a grand total of 8% of his

remaining bank -- 29 smu). Mikhail then shows his intelligence

and, with his 390 smu heads for saner entertainments.
