[p s proefr] at [miamiu.muohio.edu] David Nadler (Distribution Coordinator) [n--dl--d] at [uh2297p01.daytonoh.ATTGIS.com] Drake Stanton (FTP Site Coordinator) [d--ac--e] at [netcom.com] All articles are copyrighted property of their respective authors. Reproducing or republishing an article, in whole or in part, in any other forum requires permission of the author or the moderator. The DragonQuest Newsletter also maintains an ftp archive site: [ftp://ftp.netcom.com/pub/dr/drache] which includes back issues of the newsletter and other articles of interest to DragonQuest players and GMs. =--==---===----====-----=====------=====-----====----===---==--= Special 'Catalog' Issue =--==---===----====-----=====------=====-----====----===---==--= Appologies to all for the delay in sending out this issue of the Newsletter. The issue has been split into the Catalog and the rest of the contents (which you should get shortly after this as the January '96 issue). The next couple of issues may also be delayed due to the Editor's busy schedule {final thesis presentation and marriage, both in the next three months!}. Your kind indulgence is appreciated; and hopefully, after graduation, it will be easier to regularize the schedule of the Newsletter. Submissions are still eagerly sought, and may be emailed to the above address. -- ED C O N T E N T S ================================================================= The Catalog Wolfgang Brodesser * -------------------------------CONTRIBUTORS------------------------------- -- Wolfgang Brodesser ([REDACTED] at [uow.edu.au]) -- John Kahane ( -- Philip Proefrock ([p s proefr] at [miamiu.muohio.edu]) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- In my opinion the best source of information on commerce for a medieval style fantasy roleplaying game is Chivalry and Sorcery's Sourcebook which was produced by Fantasy Games Unlimited. The list of prices in medieval England was compiled from the work of Thorold Rogers who, in the 19th century, produced a massive tome on prices and incomes in England from the middle ages to the mid-Victorian. Prices are in sterling silver pennies which largely held their value until the Wars of the Roses. There is a bias towards the Late Middle Ages in the listing because information is more abundant. Labour was cheaper, while exotic and industrial goods were more expensive in the earlier period. DragonQuest offers a rich selection of Dungeon Crawling Accessories for sale. I offer a list which is more to the liking of a typical peasant or townsman. The source for my price list is J.E. T(horold) Rogers "A History of Agriculture and Prices in England". They should therefore be treated as raw figures. I find them to be slightly higher than those offered in C & S and slightly lower than those listed in DQ. In my campaigns I usually double C & S prices, except for armaments where prices were deliberately inflated by the C & S game designers. G. Chaucer's sixteen pound ransom came from another source. Wolfgang. -------------------------------------------- Many of the prices I have included are meant for the operation of a small manor house or for merchant trade activity. These may not be the prices which adventurers and common folk will be able to get.
