Subject: Armies and PCs - Equipment
Date: Sat, 09 Nov 1996 08:15:00 GMT

Characters in the army recieve armour, weapons, clothing, food, and
equipment. Once they are decommisioned, they are able to keep one
weapon, their armour, and their shield. The quality of these weapons
is largely determined by the seniority of the troops; as a soldier
becomes more and more experienced, he or she recieves better and
better equipment. Elite units and officers recieve the best.
Elite or special forces troops receive one level higher
equipment (they receive the equipment listed for 6 months upon
enlistment, and can receive the equipment marked Elite after 8 years
service). Elite forces include mages, blademasters, cavalry, and
other powerful units. Officers also receive one rank higher and can
reach the Elite Officer level if they command an Elite unit (patrol
leaders count as normal troops for these purposes).
Any of the equipment for lower levels is available upon
request, but cannot be kept after a character's term is over.
However, there is unlimited trading before this time.

Player characters may choose to enlist before game play
begins, but except in rare cases (game starts above level one) should
not have been in the army or militia for longer than one year.
Characters starting play at level 2 or above may add up to one year to
this time per level above first.

Note: The armour doesn't translate well, sorry. I use my own armour
and the Palladium AR rules, and they have 15 levels of protection
compared to AD&D's 8 or so. The elite officer up there would have
protection similar to wearing scale mail + shield or so or possibly
light platemail.
