Sorry I didn't reply to this sooner- I was on vacation the last 3 days. 
Anyway, the Merck Index gives these figures for the LD50 for nicotine in mice:

.3 mg/kg i.m. (intramuscularly- injected into a muscle like a typical
vaccination)
9.5 mg/kg i.p. (intraperitoneal- injected into the abdomenal cavity)
230 mg/kg orally- BIG difference

No data is given for humans, but there is a reference given for toxicity data:
R.B. Barlow, LJ McLeaod, Brit. J of Pharmacol. 35, 161 (1969).
