Here is the text of a letter from California Assemblyman 
John Vasconcellos to Dale Gieringer of CAL NORML:

September 16, 1993

I am pleased to inform you that AB 1072 has recently passed both 
houses of the State Legislature.  Currently, the bill sits on 
the Governor's desk awaiting his final decision.

As you may know,  AB 1072 creates the California Task Force to 
Prevent Drug and Alcohol Abuse.  this bi-partisan body will focus 
its attention on assessing the government's current methods of 
prevention and determining strategies that would better combat 
the problem of substance abuse.  Creation of this comprehensive 
task force would greatly benefit our state's efforts in this 
area without requiring any additional expenditures.

Now is the time to show your continued support for AB 1072 by 
contacting the Governor's Office and strongly urging him to sign 
it into law.  You can reach the Governor by faxing him at 
(916)445-4633, calling him at (916)445-2864 or writing him at:
