From: [p--h] at [gwd.erl.dsto.gov.au] (Paul Hermsen) Newsgroups: alt.drugs,aus.politics,alt.hemp Subject: Cannabis Crop to be Trialled Date: Fri, 17 Feb 1995 15:41:44 UNDEFINED from "The Advertiser" (South Australia) Fri, 17 Feb 1995. pg 9. CANNABIS CROP TO BE TRIALLED Cannabis is likely to be growing - legally - in South Australia within three months. The State Government has announced that 74 sq m of industrial-purpose cannabis - or hemp - will be planted near Kybybolite, in the South-East, and at Gawler as a trial. It follows lobbying by the Australian Democrats leader, Mr Mike Elliott, who says hemp can be used for paper manufacture and the production of fabrics, plastics oil, grain and building materials. End of Article. Pretty scant on facts, but then this is "The Advertiser". Amazing that a bit of political will-power which is of monumental environmental and social significance to this country gets approx. 80 words and takes 3 days to print, and yet they can devote 1/8th of a page to some idiot getting busted for Xtc. The bullshit which surrounds this War On some Drugs still suprises me. I'm not sure about the places mentioned here either. Tuesday night TV reports suggested Yorke Peninsula as the trial region. What ever it is a start, albeit a small one. Here is hoping to the dawning of a new era in environmentally benign living. Paul Hermsen [p--h] at [gwd.erl.dsto.gov.au]
