Betel is traditionally chewed, not smoked. A piece of the nut from the palm, _Areca catechu_,, is mixed with some lime (the chemical, not the citrus), and wrapped in a leaf of _Piper betal_. The leaf needs to be fresh to be good. Try an Indian grocery store. The good ones have spices and maybe a little honey mixed inside. Swallow a little of the juice if you have worms. . . . I think that the arecoline alkaloids are the stimulating part, but the leaf gives the euphoriant part. Terpenes, I recall. Maybe best to do it outdoors until you get the hang of it. :)
