The 5/15 Sunday Philadelphia Inquirer, Montgomery County "Neighbors"
section, has two stories next to each other, reporting on recent county
courtroom activity. In one case, a man was convicted of raping a
fourteen-year-old girl. In the other, a man sold drugs to his co-workers.

In the rape case, the defendant was swimming with several other people in
the girl's grandmother's pool. Eventually the girl was left alone with the
man; he forced her to the side, pinned her arms and legs and raped her.

In the drug case, the defendant would take methamphetamine orders from his
co-workers on Monday; on Tuesday, he would distribute the drugs; on
Wednesday, which was payday at the company, he would collect the payment
for the drugs.

In the rape case, the defendant was sentenced to 27 to 54 months in the
county jail, and will be eligible for work release.

In the drug case, the defendant was sentenced to 4 to 10 years in state
prison.

I read my wife these stories. When I finished telling her about the man
selling drugs to his co-workers, she asked, "Did he pin their arms and
legs?" (It's a typically astute question from my wife, whom I could not
convince to run for the state legislature last month.)
