Subject: Question abour the Law and Drugs...
Date: 8 Oct 1994 03:20:01 -0400

Hello everyone in this group.

I have a question regarding law in general. A friend of mine received a
package from UPS last week. The package label did not have a name, just an
address. UPS MISDELIVERED the package, since the package was addressed to
one of his neighbors. My friend, opened the package, not paying too much
attention to the label. Inside, he found, what he described to me as about
a handful of marijuana. He immediately called the police department, as
well as UPS and informed them as to the contents of the package he
received. What happened from there I really dont know, but from what he
told me today, the police was trying to press charges on HIM for drug
possesion. This sounds absolutely ridiculous to me, since after all, the
package was **NOT** addressed to him, and he simply did the right thing by
calling the cops.

Can someone that knows the law please tell me what a person receiving a
package is responsable for or liable if the contents are illegal drugs?

Since I cannot check this group regularly, I would appreciate it if you
could get back to me about this via e-mail at: [marco 500] at [aol.com]

Whatever info I find out, I will definately pass on to my friend.

Thanks,

Marco
