I remember when I was in high school, it was a misdemeanor punishble
by a fine. (Early 70's) A person I knew at the same time was arrested
with less than two grams of marijuana and received a 10 year sentence.
He was facing life.

There was a segment on the recent Walter Cronkite special that showed
a young woman serving a mandatory 10 year minimum for passing a phone
number to an undercover cop. I am NOT exagerating this. While she was
on the phone to her mother, a man broke in and raped her mother. He
was caught and convicted and will be out of jail when the young woman
will still have 3 years left to serve.

Why do they call it justice???????????????
