HEMP FOR VICTORY

HEMP (Help End Marijuana Prohibition) is a new organisation formed
to lobby for changes in the cannabis laws in Queensland.

HEMP Qld is calling for the immediate decriminalisation of
cannabis for personal use and its eventual legalisation.

HEMP's public launch - Hemp For Victory - will be held at Boulder
Lodge, the Valley on Wednesday Sept 29.

HEMP For Victory is a night of discussion, videos and bands.
Videos featured include Hemp For Victory; Whatever Happened to the
Million Dollar Crop; Reefer Madness; a video made by Nimbin Hemp;
and a video of the Great Cannabis Debate (Sitting Duck Cafe, West
End 16/7/93) made by QUT students.

Speakers include noted criminologist Dr. Paul Wilson, Phil Dickie
from the CJC, Bob Hopkins from Nimbin HEMP, Dusan Bojic from
Brisbane HEMP and Brisbane lawyer Paul Richards.

Bands include Pleasures for the Sixth Sense, the Fred Band and
Lazy John's Blues Band.

Price is $5 and $4. Doors open at 7pm, speakers commence at 8pm.

HEMP spokesperson, Tony Kneipp, said: "There is a groundswell of
support for the decriminalisation of marijuana for personal use.
Over the past fortnight we have seen calls for decriminalisation
from the Qld Young Liberals, the Law Society of NSW, and the Qld
Branch of the Australian Pensioners League.

"HEMP expects that Queensland politicians will cling to a
hypocritical and outmoded view of respectability in spite of the
changes in public opinion. If there are to be reforms in the
cannabis laws they will have to be dragged kicking and screaming
the whole way.

"That is why a group like HEMP has been formed."
