The jurors were sequestered Wednesday night. Defense attorney Dan Cogdell's closing: Called the federal agents "overgrown GI Joes", referring to the ATF flag flown over the ashes of the Mount Carmel compound. Repeatedly pounding his fist on the podium during his closing arguments, Cogdell said: "Ninety people lost their lives in the name of gun parts...make no mistake, (government officials) want us to pay for their mistakes." Prosecutor Ray Jahn: "These individuals [referring to the agents killed during the raid, apparently] died because they made one fatal mistake -- they mis- judged the zeal and the murderous impact of those who followed the man named 'David Death.'" After the jury received the case, some attorneys spoke to the press. Defense attorney Cogdell expressed confidence in the jury, saying "It's a good jury...they've given the right facial expressions at the right time." "This is a case about disrespect -- governmental disrespect... The agreement or plan to prepare for an attack is not a conspiracy to commit murder. Conspiring to defend yourselves is not a crime," said defense attorney Mike DeGuerin. He also referred to several previous opportunities federal agents had to serve warrants peace- fully, as late as two days before the raid. "Just because you might have been present during a crime does not mean you had criminal intent," said defense attorney Tim Evans. He maintained that prosecutors considered some defendants guilty simply for being in the compound during the raid. Prosecutor Ray Jahn claimed that the Davidians were "preoccupied with death" and that there was a "war on the federal government." ========================= ADMINISTRIVIA ========================= KNOWN DISTRIBUTIONS USENET: talk.politics.guns, alt.politics.org.batf, alt.conspiracy, alt.politics.usa.misc & alt.politics.libertarian - author USENET: info.firearms.politics/mailing list Firearms Politics ([firearms politics] at [ns1.rutgers.edu]) - author Other networks - BIX: tojerry/inquest - Paul L.
