I apologize in advance if this posting is not appropriate to this
newsgroup; I believe it is.

The Internet Roundtable Society announces a free, *online* talk-show this
Thursday, October 27 at 7pm PST (10pm EST). We'd like readers of this
newsgroup to attend, if they are interested.

We are interviewing Kathy Watkins, Administrator of CARAL North
(California Abortion Rights Action League). Her topic will be

        INTERNET FOR ACTIVISTS

and will be about how the Internet is being used by activists of all
kinds to further their agendas. While it will focus on how abortion
activists on both sides use the net, her insights should be generally
useful.

The show runs for an hour. Our host, Kevin Pursglove (creator of the
acclaimed "Forum" program on KQED-FM, San Francisco's PBS station), will
interview her at the beginning of the program, and then take questions
from the audience for the remainder.

HOW TO ATTEND

This live event is made possible by the Internet Relay Chat
(IRC) Undernet network. The best way to get into IRC is to ask your
Internet service provider or system administrator how to run their IRC
client. Often this simply means typing "IRC" from your prompt. If there
is no IRC client available, you can telnet to one of the following IRC
clients, although you should expect more of a lag:

telnet exuokmax.ecn.uoknor.edu 6677 (Oklahoma max. 30 users)
telnet exuokmax.ecn.uoknor.edu 7766 (Oklahoma max. 30 users)
telnet sci.dixie.edu 6677 (Utah max. 8 users)
telnet caen.fr.eu.undernet.org 6677 (France max. 5 users)
telnet obelix.wu-wien.ac.at 6969 (Austria max. ? users)

Or if you would like to FTP client software for your machine:

ftp csa.bu.edu (/pub/irc/clients)
ftp deathstar.resnet.upenn.edu (/pub/irc/Clients)

Once you are in IRC...

Assuming a show is starting within 15 minutes, or has already started,
now type:

/server Davis.CA.US.undernet.org 6667
/join #Podium

and you will be on our channel.

You can get out of IRC by typing

/quit

Since this is a test to see how well the interview format works on IRC,
please expect there to be some rough edges. Nonetheless, I think you
will find the show interesting and informative; and if you have any
questions to pose, all the better.

If you have any questions, please email [f--u--v] at [netcom.com.]

Thanks for your time.

Regards,

Michael Fremont
