From: [j h risoulas] at [aol.com] (JHrisoulas) Newsgroups: rec.guns Subject: Re: answering questions of state police Date: 4 Sep 1995 22:39:24 -0400 I have been reading this thread off and on for a while. I train Police Cadets. I and a friend was stopped by a law enforcement training officer and a cadet on ride along. The Officer (not the cadet) asked the same "Are you carrying any weapons?" question of my friend (who is not a sworn officer) and then asked "do you mind if we search your car?" Lucky for me neither the Cadet or the Officer recognised me (which is a problem as I am quite the memorable fellow). They proceeded to search the vehicle, but not our persons. Which is very good for me, as I was adding all this up in my head and I didn't want this "blown" by them finding my weapon and my ID... Next day, I called the Cadet involved into my office at the Academy and asked him what did he think the officer was doing? The answer was astounding! Well all I can say is that this no longer occurs in my department's jurisdiction. We no longer allow this action and searches are not allowed to be "fishing expeditions". I had no idea that this was going on, on a regular basis. Not all of our officers were doing this, only a "choice few". This has been stopped in Nevada. Your servant, Sgt J.P. Hrisoulas
