Subject: NRA Pro-Censorship ?
Date: 12 Jul 93 22:41:09 -0500

So the NRA has gone anti-(TV)-violence now ? Doesn't this seem just
a tad hypocritical - and considerably dangerous ?

The anti-TV-violence crusade is nothing but pure censorship commanded
from the highest levels and for the sole purpose of generating a
cause politicians can use to get re-elected. Any cause-and-effect
relationship between fictional and actual violence has always been
very dubious at best ... and usually bears that same stench as the
'evidence' proving that private firearm ownership causes perfectly
sane people to gun down nuns on streetcorners. Did you know that if
the kiddies see a 'ninja turtle' movie and then play around trying
to imitate some of the acrobatic moves, your typical 'researcher'
jots that behavior down as 'aggression' ? Maybe they need to watch
the news from Bosnia a little more closely, so they can learn what
REAL 'aggression' is all about.

Censorship is perhaps one of the most heinous acts a totalitarian
government can impose. It is nothing less than 'reality-engineering'.
Ideas, images, options, arguments, positions and reasoning for
alternative points of view are never allowed to even be seen. It is
one thing to convince a person to adopt some philosophy, but it is
quite another thing to deprive them of all other philosophies just
to guarentee their conformity. Censorship is theft, it is manipulation
and it is the antithesis of the concept of individual choice.

It takes no stretch of the imagination to group the NRA into the
class of 'violent' things which should be censored. Indeed, the
major TV networks have already been doing so - self-reliance,
individual empowerment and the very notion of using force to
protect ones life are apparently 'un-PC' these days. The NRA
seems to be trying to slide in under the blanket of whats 'PC'.
They cannot succeed because part of the whole idea of the 2nd is
the proper use of violence and force. The 'liberals' won't fall
for that. Also, it is appalling that any organization dedicated
to individualism and individual rights would even consider jumping
on the censorship bandwagon.
