NRA'S "WOES" ARE JUST MEDIA'S WISHFUL THINKING

With a giddiness all too often seen in the establishment media,
press reports are claiming that a restructuring of NRA operations
means the Association is weak and no longer able to block their "gun
control" agendas. But once again, the reports seem to be based more
on wishful thinking than fact. Only in the minds of the anti-gun
media could efforts to streamline our Association to better deliver
our educational programs and services to our members be seen as a sign
of financial ruin. In truth, to increase efficiency and meet the
growing demands for youth, safety and education programs for our
members, NRA has created a new division -- the Community Services
Division -- to help empower members at the grassroots level to deliver
safety and education programs in communities where members live. The
decision to place greater emphasis on grassroots efforts was based
largely on the success of NRA-ILA's Grassroots Network, which has
helped bring about dramatic changes in America's political landscape
with the help of concerned NRA members across the nation. NRA is as
strong as ever, operating on a balanced budget, and ready to guarantee
our members the best programs available will be delivered in the most
efficient means possible.

KEEP UP CALLS ON LAUTENBERG AMENDMENT: Any day now, the House is
expected to vote on legislation that could strip citizens with
misdemeanor convictions of their Second Amendment rights. Sen. Frank
Lautenberg (D-NJ) wants to amend the Gun Control Act of 1968 to strip
the gun ownership rights of anyone convicted of a misdemeanor "crime
involving domestic violence." But his overly broad language will end
up stripping gun rights of people who have never committed a violent
crime, in or out of the home. Rep. Bob Barr (R-Ga.) has offered an
amendment to ensure these crimes covered must have as an element the
"use or attempted use of physical force, or the threatened use of a
deadly weapon, against an intimate partner of the offender." Members:
Please call your Representatives and Senators at (202) 224-3121 and
urge them to vote YES on Barr and NO on Lautenberg.

CLINTON PROMISES FURTHER RESTRICTIONS ON FIREARMS IMPORTS: Bill
Clinton has given gun owners yet another reason why we simply cannot
afford another four years of him in the White House You'll recall that
earlier this year, the Clinton Administration used heavy-handed
tactics to get the Russian government to accept "voluntary" restraints
on the models of firearms they would export to the United States.
Under the agreement, a government bureaucrat will decide which models
of firearms will be allowed to be imported from Russia based on their
perceived usefulness for collecting or sporting purposes. Now, the
president has promised to seek similar arrangements with other
nations. In a letter to pro-gun Rep. Frank Murkowski (R-Alaska),
Clinton wrote that his administration was "now implementing similar
arrangements with other countries," which could mean an end to the
availability of foreign-made firearms altogether. The Clinton
Administration has made it clear that they are interested in
prohibiting the importation of any firearm based on its attractiveness
to criminals, ergo all firearms. Stay tuned!

PRO-GUNNER WINS IN LOUISIANA: NRA-PVF endorsed candidate Woody Jenkins
(R) won a remarkable come from behind victory in Louisiana's open
U.S. Senate primary last Saturday, and now faces anti-gun Mary
Landrieu (D) in a Nov. 5 runoff to choose a successor to the retiring
J. Bennett Johnston (D). A strong showing by Louisiana gun owners
helped Jenkins take first place in the primary with 26% of the vote to
Landrieu's 21%. Congratulations Louisiana gun owners! Please be sure
to cast your ballot for Woody Jenkins again in the November 5 runoff!
