This was a decision not to decide. There were 14 people present for the meeting and by my prior head count I could depend on 7. However, 3 of my supporters collapsed as did all of the undecideds. While the result was not unexpected, given the vehemence of the other side's opposition coupled with a desire for something approaching consensus, I was still disappointed. I won't bother to go into details -- suffice it to say that what passed for a debate was a travesty. However, looking on the bright side, the board was unwilling to reject the proposal. Moreover, the board will have to address the issue again -- I'll see to that -- were we to have people who came to the ICLU requesting legal assistance on a matter relating to firearms keeping or bearing under the Indiana Constitution. In this regard, let me reiterate that I am looking for plaintiffs to challenge the municipal ordinances of Gary and Hammond that prohibit even the LICENSED CARRY of firearms within their city limits. This is an imminently winnable case. If the ICLU is approached and refuses -- and I'm willing to bet that they won't -- I'm certain that I can find another organization that will provide legal assistance. That's it for now. It has been a long battle. We shall persevere. -- paul hager [h--ge--p] at [cs.indiana.edu] "The most formidable weapon against errors of every kind is reason." -- Thomas Paine, _The Age of Reason_
