Well, I've been fairly busy writing letters to [p--i--t] at [whitehouse.gov]
and I received a snailmail reply in yesterday's mail. I'm sure Mr Bill
won't mind if I post it here:

Dear Alan:

Thank you for writing. More than 24,000 Americans are killed with handguns
every year. Although I am sensitive to the legitimate rights of gun owners,
we cannot permit another generation of Americans to live in constant fear in
unsafe neighborhoods, schools, and communities.

It is a terrible truth that it is easier to obtain a handgun than it is to
get a driver's license. The Brady Bill mandates a five-day waiting period
for handgun purchases in order to allow police to determine if the potential
purchaser is a criminal or is prohibited from buying a gun for any other
reason. This proposal will help keep firearms off the street and out of the
hands of criminals, without restricting the rights of legitimate gun owners.
There is no conceivable excuse for delaying the passage of the Brady Bill
one more day. If the Congress will pass it, I will sign it.

Recently, I signed two presidential directives to combat gun violence. I
ordered the Treasury Department to review the rules governing gun dealers and
and to take the steps necessary to suspend the importation of foreign-made
assault pistols. Too many weapons of war are making their way onto our
streets turning them into batlegrounds. Gangs roam our neighborhoods better
armed than our police officers, and we cannot tolerate this any longer.

We cannot delay action against gun violence. I ask for your support as I
work to implement a comprehensive crime initiative.

Sincerely,

(signed Bill Clinton)

There it is. I intend on continuing this correspondence, trying to show Mr Bill
the errors in the above missive. Everybody else is welcome to join in...his
email address, in case you have forgotten, is [p--i--t] at [whitehouse.gov]
