Date: 5 Nov 93 18:18:07 GMT The under-measured variable that puts the lie to Kellerman's claim is the percentage of people hit or hurt in a fight in the home. Since only 5.7%, of the controls had ever even been hit or hurt in a fight in the home, but 100% of the cases had been hit and killed in a fight in the home (by definition), the claim that gun ownership increased the risk of homicide is no more valid than if you compared a group of cases killed in boating accidents with a group of controls of which only 5.7% had ever been in a boating accident and claimed that life jacket ownership increased the risk of boating accident fatality. It's that simple. Kellerman tried to claim that only 31.8% of the cases had been hit or hurt in a fight in the home! This is a bold-faced lie. Thanks for exposing it, Steve. -- Peter K.
