Many West Indians have moved to the United States, where we have
exercised our right to bear arms. I know this because many of my West
Indian friends in Florida are licensed CCW's.

Back home, restrictive gun laws have reaked havoc on the countries,
especially Jamaica, where the criminals are heavily armed. The
government of Jamaica has made it extremely difficult for a law-abiding
citizen to purchase a gun, while the criminals roam the streets with M-16
rifles.

Having lived here for some years, and seen how Florida's concealed carry
law has deterred crime against Floridians, I believe that liberalizing
the Firearms Act (1967) is the only way Jamaica will start to put a dent
in violent crime.

It is up to us who have experienced the freedom of Florida law to
encourage to government in Jamaica to free our brothers and sisters from
the grip of fear.
