DC:
===
The Matrix imprint: an overview.
We had excerpts from the intial Matrix titles in this issue:

Cyberella (Chaykin & Cameron). I'm biased about this one, because I
so desperately want this to be the American Flagg of the 90's. Vir-
tual life replaces real life in an increasingly crowded and techno-
obsessed world. Art by Don Cameron, obviously an assistant of Chaykin,
who apes his style much the way Mike Vosburg did during the final
year of AF.

Gemini Blood (Hinz & Edwards). Ties in with the writer's series of
sf novels published by TOR. Story about a genetically engineered army
didn't exactly grab me, but if I pick it up it'll be for the fab Tommy
Lee Edwards artwork.

Vermillion (Shepard & Davison). sf/fantasy from Hugo award winner
Lucius Shepard had decent art, but I found it unremarkable.

Bloody Mary #1 of 4 (Ennis & Ezquerra). Gee, Garth Ennis, post-apocalyp-
tic fighting nuns, the cocreator of Judge Dredd, half the calories,
tastes just like a Milky Way and you *think* I'll enjoy it?! Gimme that!

The Black Lamb #1 of 6 (Truman). Everything Truman does now reminds me
of Hawkworld. Not sure if that's a good thing, but I'm checking this out.
-----------Cyberella and Gemini Blood premiere in July-----------------

Denny O'Neil's full-page promise to you: After "Legacy," no more Bat-
crossover for at least 1 year! Self-contained batbooks! At least 1 sin-
gle-issue Batman story every month! Team-ups you demanded!

Batman: Black & White #4 has Alex Toth, Brian Bolland, Katsihiro Otomo,
Jan Strnad, Kevin Nowlan, Archie Goodwin, Gary Gianni, Denny O'Neil, and
Brian Stelfreeze.

Birds of Prey: Manhunt #1 pf 4 (Dixon & Haley). Oracle, Black Canary,
Catwoman, and the Huntress.

Justice League: A Midsummer's Nightmare #1 of 3 (Waid/Nicieza & J. John-
son/D. Robertson). Lead-in to the upcoming Grant Morrison era of JLA.

Why they're making you buy Showcase #8: LSH story by McCraw & Flores,
Supergirl story by PAD & Dodson, Superboy story by K. Kesel & Grummett.

Supergirl #1 (PAD & Frank). The Girl of Protoplasm settles in the fic-
tional town of Leesburg, where she is involved in the mystery of a Ms.
Linda Danvers.

Superboy and the Ravers #1 (K. Kesel & Pelletier). A new teen hero book.
Superboy, Sparx (Kesel's Newblood character), plus new kids Half-Life,
Aura, Hard Luck, and Kaliber (who I will hereafter refer to as "The Kid
from Qward").

The cover Action #725 (Michelinie & Morgan) shows an ominous-looking
city in a bottle.

Green Lantern and Major Force show up in Aztek #2 (Morrison/Millar &
N. S. Harris).

Fate #22 (Kaminski & A. Williams). Final issue: Fate vs. Doctor Fate,
leading in to yet another (Dr.?) Fate title later in the year.

Impulse #17 (Waid & H. Ramos) guest stars Zatanna.

Shrinking Violet becomes the Emerald Empress in Legionnaires #40 (Stern/
McCraw & Moy). In LSH #84 (Peyer/McCraw & Moder) half the team becomes
trapped in the 20th century.

TPB: Sandman: The Kindly Ones. The Sovereign 7 Jumbo Coffee Cup.

stories of surreal romance.
