Well, William McKinley, he didn't do no wrong
He just rode down to Buffalo
But he didn't stay too long.
	Hard times, hard times.

All the people, they came running to see what had been done.
They said, "You have shot the President
	with your Iver-Johnson gun!"
	Hard times, hard times.

The man who shot McKinley, he never took a stand
He just fired his little pistol
When he reached to shake his hand.
	Hard times, hard times.

And they burned the man who shot him
	In their new electric chair
	When they told McKinley
	He didn't even care.
	Hard times, hard times.

Now Rossevelt's in the White House
	He'll dring the silver cup.
	McKinley's in the graveyard
	You'l never wake him up
	Hard times, Hard times.

Oh children, don't you weep and mourn
	Children, save your breath.
	You'll draw a pretty pension
When your daddy meets his death.
	Hard times, hard times.

Traditional

The liner notes to Boiled in Lead's version (on their album "ORB") goes on
to say:

"William McKinley, President of the United States was shot in Buffalo
New York on 6 September 1901. Upon receiving the wound which would cause
his death one week later, McKinley is reported to have said, "Am I shot?"
He is also reported to have said "Let no one hurt him" when the assassin
Leon F Czolgosz was beaten by the Secret Service and onlookers."

Good album.
