The Nearly Compleat List of Sandman Frequently Asked Questions 2.09
(Now in four action packed parts, plus a rather dull table of contents)

Compiled and pushed around by Lance Smith ([l s mith] at [cs.umn.edu])
with a lot of help from the kind folx in rec.art.comics.misc
          (Or is it rec.arts.comics.dc.universe now?)

or all of this information in a printed work.]

Disclaimer: The Sandman and its characters are owned by DC Comics. We are not
about to do anything to upset them. (They'd squash us like a peanut!)

Special hello to all the people who are reading this in Gopher holes, with
the help of faithful Fido, and on the Widespread WorldWideWeb. Wubba Wubba

Still NOT mentioned by the folx at Wired. Dang.

Probably some SPOILERS in here. So let's all be careful out there.

Notes:

  1. In SimCity 2000 if you click on the "Ruminate" button in the info window
for a library you get a Gaiman essay on cities. This works in the Mac
version. Might not work for the IBM/DOS/Windows version.

  2. In issue #6 of Rick Veitch's "The One," Gaiman takes part in a discussion
with Tom Veitch and Stephen Bissette on the changing nature of superheroes.
This is reprinted in the King Hell trade paperback.

  3. Not sure what to do with the Tekno Comics that include Gaiman's name in
the title. By most accounts, Gaiman has had little to do with the books
other than providing the original outlines for the titles and the
     occasional suggestion.

  4. Gaiman remains a consultant on the Books of Magic series.

  5. I still don't acknowledge that rumored early book. Nope. Not going to do
it. I suppose if someone were to send me a copy...

  6. Gaiman has letters to the editor(s) in Instant Piano #3, Horus, Lord of
     Light (1963 #5), Captain Confederacy #4. Eddie Campbell's Bacchus #1.
Letters in Instant Piano and Bacchus look like they were converted
     e-mail messages.

  7. SATAN 1.X software uses an image of the program's namesake designed by
     Gaiman.

  8. Still a handful of odds and ends out there that I don't have complete
     info on.

     - Introduction to a recent Tori Amos concert program

     - Introduction to _Saviour_ by Mark Millar and Nigel Kitching

     - Introduction to a collection of Tales from the Heart

     - An entry in the Harlan Ellison ashcan from a previous Chicago Comic
       convention

     - The short stories "Featherquest" and "How to Sell the Ponti Bridge"
that appeared in Imagine magazine in the mid 80s

     - Gaiman's interview with Lou Reed for the Reflex magazine

     - introductions in the third and eighth volumes of the Titan Swamp
       Thing collections. Others?

Don't be bashful. Send me e-mail.

[4.2] Question: Where can I get a copy of _Angels and Visitations_ and the
      "Snow, Glass, Apples" chapbook?

The major comic distributors, Diamond, Cap City, Friendly Franks, etc., have
all bought and continue to reorder copies of _Angels_. The easiest way, may
be to have your local comic shop order a copy from their distributor. Currently,
both Diamond's Star System and Cap City's Hyperlink feature the book and so
shops doing business with either Cap City or Diamond should be able to get
you a copy within a week if they regularly use either of these services.

If you're not in North America or don't have access to a helpful comic shop,
you can buy a copy via mail order from the publisher, DreamHaven Books. Copies
can be sent out overseas, but will take time if sent by surface mail and air
mail will add considerably to the price of the book.

You can contact DreamHaven at (612) 379-0657 or write to:

   DreamHaven Books
   1309 4th Street SE
   Minneapolis, MN 55414

e-mail: [dreamh v n] at [winternet.com]

If you have a local bookstore that will order books for you, you may wish to
give them this information. If they ask, the ISBN number is 0-9630944-2-4.

A special limited edition of _Angels_ is also available.

"Snow, Glass, Apples" is a chapbook (the short story equivalent of a comic book
ashcan) also available from DreamHaven. The chapbook includes a cover and
interior illustration by Charles Vess. 10% of the sales of this chapbook go to
support the Comic Book Legal Defense fund. At the present time, DreamHaven is
the only distributor for this title. Cost is $10 postpaid.

[4.3] Question: Where can I get a copy of The Flash Girl's "The Return of
Pansy Smith and Violet Jones" CD/Cassette? How about a
copy of their "Maurice and I" CD?

"The Return of Pansy Smith and Violet Jones" is available on CD ($15) and
Cassette ($10) from:

  SteelDragon Press
  P.O. Box 7253
  Minneapolis, MN 55407

Add $2 S&H and if you live in a flat state (IA, IL, IN, KS, OH, MI, MN, NE, SD,
WI, but strangely, not North Dakota) add the appropriate sales tax.

A second Flash Girls CD with more songs co-written by Gaiman is now available.
From Fabulous Records, it features three Gaiman songs as well as songs by
Alan Moore and Jane Yolen and a Michael Zulli cover. To order, send $15
per CD (not available in the popular cassette format) plus $2 for shipping
to:

  Lorraine Garland
  c/o SteelDragon Press
  P.O. Box 7253
  Minneapolis, MN 55407

(Checks should be made out to Lorraine Garland.)

The Flash Girls also have their own Web page that includes more info on
both of their CD, tour dates and further ordering info. Check it out at
its NEW home:
