MANHUNTER was the thing which inspired me to write my own stories. My copies of
those Detective issues eventually fell apart from being read so often. That
bunch of stories was so compelling to me that I used it as my own personal high
water mark for greatness.

Years later, when DC Comics picked up The Griffin I was stunned when the phone
rang and on the other end of it was Archie Goodwin telling me he was going to
be my editor on the series. He talked for five minutes before I finqally
blurted out like the stupid fanboy I had just been transformed into what a huge
influence he was on me and how honored I was to be working with him. He let me
go on for a few minutes and then just said something like "Uh, thanks,
anyway..."

The privelege of knowing and working with Archie is maybe the best thing to
come out of my entire association with DC Comics. I can't begin to explain how
sad I feel right now.
