I made it to APE (alternative Press expo).. flown up there by a raver friend named Omar. APE was incredible.. i was kinda sick that morning but i made it through the day. I got to meet some of yew comics-pro people again like chad (october black), lance and mike (twist and shout), and see people i haven't talked to since july at the SD ComiCon. Turl, missed ya up there, sorry. if you do indy comics, i *highly* recommend this convention. It's the pure opposite of the Vegas Con.. and about the same size room/vender wise. I missed the panels this time.. wanted to speak at them but it was too late by the time I was goin. There were a lot of people who attended APE, and a lot of comics being bought (at a con? imagine that).. so that was pretty cool to see. Lots of happy interesting people to talk to.. plus because it was up in northern CA, the weather wasn't incredibly annoying and there was lots of stuff to do =) the people who put it together did an awesome job and it was really a fun and productive event. One really cool thing that happened was the toon character from too much coffee man and the APE mascot happened to be near the burrito booth and someone was strumming away at this little guitar that looked like it came outta loony tunes, and the characters started dancing. the anti-gravity room people taped it, too =) it was hilarious. That night i didn't go to the APE party by Brenner, but I had a chance to experience an all-house rave with a san fransisco flavor. It was called Cloud House, put on by Cloud Factory. INCREDIBLE vibe.. wow.. the people there were really incredibly friendly.. following the sf myth. =) You can be a total stranger and start introducing yourself.. and by the end of the night have friends from all over.. it's rad. The chill rooms there were really nice.. we're talkin about people piled on top of each other on couches and beanbags and literal chains of massaging. Free bottled water, as much as you can drink, was also readily available. I usually don't like house cuz a lot of the stuff ive heard has too many rap-hiphop elements.. but these DJS were really good. Jon Howard spun, and so did DJ Lee. didn't catch any other names. Jon Howard's spinning somewhere in San Diego real soon, so go check him out. The music was really energizing.. I guess there's just been a steady stream of trance parties up there, so the ravers were all hyped up for a change of style. As for location, sf has been having major problems with raves since new years. The cops are now under the orders that "if it looks like a rave, bust it." Cloud house was in the middle of downtown somewhere.. i think san jose. It was three stories up and the map-point got moved a few times. When we got to the map point, it was in a weird place: the dmv. The party went on all night.. =) If you have a chance to go up there, check out the san fransisco scene. It's soooo very different than down here.. it's really hard to spell out the differences, since it's emotional. Just go... chances are, everythign youve heard about it was right. -pinguino -- This message sent (via majordomo) by mailing list [comics pro] at [netcom.com.] To unsubscribe, send the message body "unsubscribe comics-pro" to the above address.
