2099, SpiderMan, Punisher, X-Men, Doom, Tyler Stone, and everyone else that I
mention are Copyrights of MARVEL COMICS blah^3. You can do whatever you want
with this, just make sure you mention my name in there somewhere.

1) What is Marvel 2099?
Marvel 2099 is the new sci-fi universe created by Marvel in 1992. The
titles are set in the year 2099, hence the name Marvel 2099. The original 4
titles in the Universe included SpiderMan 2099, Doom 2099, Punisher 2099, and
Ravage 2099. Since then, there have been X-Men 2099, Ghost Rider 2099
and Hulk 2099 titles. It is said to be THE future of the present day Marvel
universe. It's a dark gritty vision of that future. Basically, in the year
2099, there are no super-heroes left. They all were supposedly killed in a
great battle, simply referred to as the "End of the Heroic Age". The United
States no longer exists as we know it. The entire nation is run by various
Mega-Corporations, namely Alchemax, Stark-Fujikawa, Synthia and a few others.
Present day systems of laws are non-existant. Police protection is no longer
a public right. People must pay "subscribtion" fees in order to recieve
proper protection from the authorities (ie The Public Eye or other similar
police forces. These forces are under direct control of their parent Mega-
Corps(ie Alchemax in New York). What that means is that there's no one to
look over the shoulder of these companies, so in short, they can do what they
want to whomever they want and not have to answer to anyone.
**Update: As of the month of April, Doom 2099 has taken over the US.
Needless to say, some serious changes have taken place since this
takeover, but that's for another FAQ :)

2) Who is Spider Man 2099, and is he a descendant of Peter Parker?
Miguel O'Hara, and NO!. Miguel O'Hara is a geneticist who works for
Alchemax. It was initially revealed that he was of Irish/Mexican descent. His
abusive father worked for Alchemax, and he thus recieved his education at
Alchemax's School for Gifted Children (which incidently IS the present day
X-Mansion).
In issue #25, it is revealed that his real father is in fact Tyler Stone, his
boss at Alchemax.

3) How did Miguel gain his powers?
Miguel was working on a project for Alchemax to create a Corporate
Raider. They experimented on combining human and animal genetic code to
obtain a super-powered being. Miguel felt that the project had yet to reach
the stage where human testing was possible.  Of course Tyler Stone pressed on;
Miguel wanted out of Alchemax; Tyler stone places an addictive drug known as
"The Rapture" in Miguel's drink (a drug which only Alchemax produces, thus
making Miguel a slave to the company); Miguel realizes that the only way to
counteract this addiction is to replace his genetic structuring with the way
it was before; he secretly returns to the Alchemax lab and attempts to imprint
his original genetic code on himself; Aaron Delgato, one of Miguel's co-workers
, sabotages Miguel's attempt; spider sequences are combined with his own,
resulting in Miguel's transformation to Spiderman. (whew!) *Note that this
is the shortened version and I'm really doing this storyline no justice by
writing it here, to get the real effect of what IMO is one of the best
Marvel story arcs ever, read Spiderman 2099 #1-3.*

4) What are Spiderman 2099's powers?

i) retractable claws at the ends of his fingers and toes, which allow
him to cling on to walls. The claws are also very useful for cutting up his
  opponents.
ii) webbing (of course) which is processed by web sacs on his forearms, &
spews out of the underside of his wrists.
iii) fangs, which can also spit venom, and can paralyze an opponent.
iv) "Proportional Strength of a Spider"
v) enhanced vision

*A note or two about his costume: It's made of Unstable Molecule Fabric, the
same as that used by the Fantastic Four, He first wore it during the Mexican
Day of the Dead Festival. The webbing on the back is in fact, not webbing at
all; it's made of lyte-byte cloth which cushion his fall when jumping from
heights.

5) Who are the supporting characters in SpiderMan 2099?

i) Dana: Miguel's ex-fiancee; works for Synthia. (first seen in S2099#1)
ii) Gabriel O'Hara (Gabe): Miguel's brother. (f.a. S2099#1)
iii) Lyla: Miguel's holographic answering machine/maid. (f.a. S2099#1)
iv) Conchata: Miguel's crazy mother. (f.a. #9)
v) Tyler Stone: Miguel's boss (revealed to be his father in #25) (f.a. #1)
vi) Xina Kwan: Miguel's ex-girlfriend from his years at the Alchemax School for
Gifted children. (f.a. #19 as young Xina; #22 as 2099 Xina)
vii) "The Net Prophet":a yet unrevealed present day Marvel universe
character who was brought into the year 2099 via the "Virtual UNreality
gate" (f.a. #12)
viii) Kasey Nash: Gabe's girlfriend, who happens to be in love with S-Man2099.
(f.a. #4)

6) What villains has Spider-Man 2099 encountered?
(issue # in () )
1. Venture (2-3, 25)
2. The Specialist (4-5)
3. Vulture 2099 and the Freakers (6-8)
4. S.I.E.G.E. (11)
5. Thanatos (12-13)

8. Discord (19-21)
9. Risque (23-24)
10. Travesty (27-28)

12. Flipside (29-30)
13. Mutagen (2099 Unlimited #1,3)
14. Chernobyl (SpiderMan 2099 ANNUAL #1)
15. Ghost Rider 2099 (Ghost Rider 2099 #7)

7) Who are the Writer/Pencillers of SpiderMan 2099?

SpiderMan 2099 is always written by Peter David; pencilled by Rick Leonardi.
Inks are done by the Award Winning Al Williamson.
guest pencillers included Kelley Jones in #9; Tom Grindberg #14; Ron Lim #18;
Joe St. Pierre #26-29; Roger Robinson #30-.
*note issue #21 was a fill-in story, it doesen't count, but for those who want
to know, it was written by Ian Edgington and pencilled by Jim Fern.

8) What's a Thorite?

A Thorite is a member of a cult (which is pretty mainstream in 2099) which
believes in Thor and his teachings. They are awaiting Thor's "triumphant
return".

9) What does "Shock" Mean?

I guess nothing really, I think it's Marvel's way to get around the censors
and make up their own 'swear word'.

10) What is Downtown?

Downtown is the lower part of New York. In the 2099 universe, there is no
longer any land area left for the city to expand. What was done, was to build
a new superstructure foundation, which is is built atop present day New York
The area above this foundation is referred to as uptown, and this is where the
more well-to-do people reside. Downtown is where the social degenerates reside
It's a place of have-nots, where laws are non-existant. Spiderman has vowed
to protect the residents of Downtown from the mindless violence that is so
widespread in that area.

11) Is Peter Parker stronger than Miguel O'Hara?

I don't know, but I think we'll find out in the upcoming bookshelf edition
comic entitled SpiderMan 2099:Project X, where the two will meet.
It'll be written by Peter David and pencilled by Rick Leonardi.

12) Which are the best issues of SpiderMan 2099?

This is obviously a totally subjective question, but my favourites are:
#10 - Background on Miguel's past. Also the issue where Miguel finally accepts
      the burden of being SpiderMan.
#1-3 - Origin.
#6 - first Downtown issue; + that tricky "Mutant Traitor Burn in Hell" poster
on page 3, and first look at Avataar (the Alchemax CEO).
#25 - vs Venture, and issue where Tyler Stone is revealed to be Miguel's pop.
#17 - vs Bloodhammer, probably the funniest Marvel comic I've ever read.
#13 - vs Thanatos in Virtual Unreality

13) What other comics has SpiderMan 2099 appeared in?
Thor Corps #3; 2099 AD #1; The issues in the Fall of the Hammer crossover (see
above); Ghost Rider 2099 #7; 2099 Unlimited #1,2,3,8.
