From: [a--on--z] at [aol.com] (AaronGuz) Newsgroups: rec.arts.comics.dc.lsh Subject: Official Legion Roster Part Two Date: 1 Jan 1996 20:38:21 -0500 This is the second part of a three part series listing all of those who have joined the illustrious ranks of the Legion of Super-Heroes. With this the newcomer will have an idea of who's who in the 30th Century. I'm sorry it took me so long to compile this. Unfortunately, I have a life and was only able to work on this on my spare time. Part II: The Adult Legion The start of the third Legion of Super-Heroes series took place five years after the events at the end of the second series. The United Planets has suffered a political and economic breakdown and the Legion has disbanded for a couple years with the members scattered throughout the galaxy. Most of the series involved the slow reformation of the Legion and its attempt to help the United Planets recover from its breakdown and liberate Earth from the tyranny of the Dominators. The storyline ended on issue #61 with the events of Zero Hour making way for the current Legion storyline. This part was a little bit more difficult to compile than the first part because, quite frankly, I was confused during most of the series when it came out the first time. I had to literally re-read every issue to get some idea what the blazes was going on. In my opinion the Adult Legion series was not done very well. As an independent storyline set in the future it was okay, but as a *Legion* storyline, it drifted too far away from the basic premise of an optimistic view of the future. Also many of the Legionnaires were very much out of character, making them almost like strangers to me. (who would have though quiet, introverted Jacques Foccart would become the president of Earth?) But nevertheless, the Adult Legion is a part of the Legion history and it must be properly chronicled. New Members Before Disbanding: In several issues of the third series there were references to new members joining the Legion before its break-up. Unless noted, assume reference to issue number to be the third series of the Legion of Super-Heroes. Impulse: First appearance in issue #12. Richard Kent Shakespeare of Earth Enhanced strength and speed. Medical technician on the planet Quarantine. Reflecto: Mentioned joining in issue #44 Stig Ah of Rimbor. Abilities never established. Reflecto was first mentioned joining the Legion and dying in Adventure Comics #354 in a story taking place in the Legion's future. Reflecto was also an identity an amnesiac Superboy/Ultra Boy fusion used in Legion of Super-Heroes (first series) #277-279. Reflecto was briefly seen in Legion of Super-Heroes (third series) Annual #1 and Secret Origins #42. Crystal Kid: First appearance Legion of Super-Heroes (first series) #272. Mentioned joining in issue #28 Bobb Kohan of Earth. Able to create cyrstalline objects. Echo: First apearance Adventure Comics #354, mentioned joining in issue #28 Real Name and homeworld unknown. Apparently sound manipulation and projection. Status unknown. Echo only appearance was as a member of the Legion of Super-Villians in a story that was supposed to take place in the Legion's near future. Karate Kid II: First appearance Legion of Super-Heroes (second series) #13, mentioned joining in issue #40 Myg of Lythyl Trained in the martial arts. Altered Members: On issue #5 of the third series, history was changed causing major retroactive changes to several characters and adding some new ones. These are the altered and new members. Supergirl: Plotlines originally involving Supergirl was retroactively replaced by 30th Century Daxamite Laurel Gand (first appearance issue #6). Superboy: Retroactively ceased to exist. It was first thought they were clones, or the original Legion held in stasis with the older Legion being clones. But they were later discovered to be displaced in time. When they gained their freedom they were soon instrumental in the liberation of Earth from the Dominion. When the Earth was destroyed and New Earth was formed from the surviving domed cities, they became New Earth's protectors with several new member, new costumes, some new names, and their own comic, Legionnaires. With the events in the Zero Hour, history was changed and the new Legion history borrowed heavily from the appearance and mannerism of the Legionnaires.
