From: [c--ve--s] at [Menudo.UH.EDU] (Chris M. Cavers) Newsgroups: rec.arts.comics.info Subject: comic libraries Date: 28 Dec 93 04:17:26 GMT File name: Libraries that have comic book collections Version: 2.60 This list is to gather information on which libraries have collections of comic book, comic strip, and comic related information. If you can add any liraries that have collections, please email the information to me. Most libraries have a few books on comic books and/or comic strips. Check out your local public and college libraries. They may have some things you are interested in (I found a photo journal volume 1 at the public library in Houston). Any large library should have a book which lists the various special collections by subject. I have used this, and found listings under comic books and comic strips. (This book lists libraries collections by subject). From Torsten Adair:[t--s--n] at [cwis.unomaha.edu] Omaha, NE, USA There is also a wonderful Internet tool called Hytelnet. This lists a variety of online library catalogs, and how to get into them (this is what I used for MSU). I would suggest that you search various libraries online, and once you have found the specific title you want, write down the author, title, and any other important information, and then go to the Interlibrary Loan Office at your library. If the title circulates, they should be able to get it via snail mail. You might have to pay postage, and I think you only get to keep the book a month. Still, it's not a bad service. They have around 50,000 comic books and about 2000 books on comics. Very impressive collection dating back to the golden age of comics. I read a couple of golden age Green Lanterns while I was there. The library is open during business hours and closed for lunch. It's a closed stacks library which means you tell the librarian what book you want and he/she goes back in the stacks and gets it for you. The librarian in charge of the collection is a comics fan and is very knowlegable about the medium. If you are in town, I suggest checking it out. They also have a collection of APA's.
