GRANDMA’S SAGE PUDDING 2-½ cups milk 2 heaping tbsp cornstarch pinch salt 2 egg yolks ½ cup sugar 1 tsp vanilla ¾ tsp ground sage 1 tbsp butter Put 2 cups of the milk in a saucepan and add the salt. Turn on the heat and pour in the sugar and sage without stirring. Whisk the cornstarch with the remaining ½ cup milk. Add the egg yolks and whisk well. When the milk comes to a high rolling boil, remove from heat and stir while pouring the cornstarch liquid in. The pudding thickens instantly. Set back on the burner and stir for 30 seconds. Turn off heat, remove from burner, and stir in the vanilla and butter. Refrigerate in dessert cups or dishes until cool. Adapted from “Around the House” (1967) by Anita Levorson.
