DARK SECRETS 1 cup hazelnuts 3 eggs 10 oz pitted dates 4 tsp flour 1 cup sugar pinch of salt 2 tbsp butter Chop hazelnuts and dates together in a food processor. Cream the sugar with the butter until white and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time. Beat in flour. Add hazelnuts, dates, and salt, and mix well. Bake in an 8x8 pan at 285° for about 45 minutes until golden brown on top. Score top into squares while still warm; remove when cool. Adapted from the “Best in Cooking in Westfield” (1955).
