Negative Space: MOO
- A Christmas Tree
- I originally made this Christmas Tree for Danny LaRue on Freegate. It features lights, ornaments, and decorations. You can put presents under it, and it grows the more stuff it has on it. The Tree keeps track of who owns the various lights and decorations, and only the owners (and the Tree’s owner, and wizards) can delete or edit their lights and decorations.
- The City of the Future
- In the earlier part of this century, magazines of science fiction and science fact both touted many versions of a ‘city of the future,’ but such a city has remained only a fiction writer’s dream. In Austin, Texas, the city of the future is finally under construction, and you can live there for ten dollars a month.
- Come to Valhalla
- Valhalla is—or was—a MOO. MOO is a ‘programming language’ for creating multi-user dungeons (MUD). MOO is object oriented (thus, MUD, Object Oriented). MOO was created by Pavel Curtis and Xerox PARC, who are to be commended for their work. While MOO is ancient technology, there are still people who find it fun and useful.
- Generic Consumables
- This is a generic consumable, its children, the generic edible and the generic drinkable, and some examples (roast pig, kegger of mead, Snicker’s Bar, and drinking fountain). Some of the examples aren’t that interesting yet.
- Generic Ping Thing
- The “Generic Ping Thing” can be used to connect to a site at a port, send one line, and echo back the results. The “Owl” is an example of a Generic Ping Thing for Finger and Whois.
- Generic Secure Kiosk
- The Secure Kiosk is a direct descendant of the Generic Gopher Slate. It allows you to secure the default list; and you can block players from using the kiosk for sites other than those on (or accessible to sites on) the default list.
- Generic Swinging Weapon
- What we have here is a very basic generic swinging weapon. It is not meant to be something functional. It’s more like a generic nerf swinging weapon. Generates interesting messages, and that’s it.
- MOO objects
- A decoratable christmas tree, generic consumables, and even a primitive web server.
- MOO Stuff
- Text archive of MOO stuff, mostly some old objects. I’m still quite proud of the Christmas tree, originally written for Freegate on the old Illuminati Online.
- MOVE Enhancement
- This enhancement allows things like @MOVE ME TO ANDRI, @MOVE DOODAD TO FRED, and @MOVE ME TO THE FIELDS OF VALHALLA. Some of us find it easier to remember long and complicated names than short,
simple object IDs…
- MUSHing the Electronic Frontier
- What is the state of virtual reality on the text-based net?
- Player Enhancements
- Not sure why it’s a folder. There must have been more here once. Currently, just the ability to move to the same place as named objects, including other players.
- Simple MOO WWW Server
- It turns out to be incredibly simple to get a MOO to serve up html documents. Here’s some code that will allow each player to have a home page on themselves.
- TelnetVision Prototype
- Well… it doesn’t quite work with telnet’s to port 23 yet. Just type “help tv” and “@messages tv” for more information once you create the stupid thing.
