Eucalyptus now available
It took a personal call from an Apple representative, but the “problem” with Eucalyptus being rejected has been solved; whether this will make any difference in the future, though, we’ll see.
For the moment, I’m very happy. The app looks as useful on my iPod Touch as it did in the video, and I have now queued up My Man Jeeves, Frankenstein, Erewhon Revisited, and Chrome Yellow for reading.
In response to Apple censors Kama Sutra: Apple denied the beautiful e-reader Eucalyptus because it lets you search the web and find classics works of pornography… like the Kama Sutra. They’ve rejected the app because… you might use it to read Victorian porn.
- Erewhon
- Samuel Butler’s Erewhon is a challenge to Darwin and a challenge to socialism. It holds its bite against the latter, but has become more of a prophecy of the future with regards to the former: Butler took Darwin’s theory, applied it meticulously to machines, and forecast the computer.
- Hither Eucalyptus!: Jamie Montgomerie
- “Earlier today I received a phone call from an Apple representative. He was very complimentary about Eucalyptus. We talked about the confusion surrounding its App Store rejections, which I am happy to say is now fully resolved. He invited me to re-build and submit a version of Eucalyptus with no filters for immediate approval, and that full version is now available on the iPhone App Store.” (Hat tip to John Gruber at Daring Fireball)
