Or just hold it against your chest and look in a mirror. This provides a way
of looking at your work in its most natural form, as well as from a
distance, as well as without any angled foreshortening effects.

Too many times I've not done this on my art, and had people comment that my
portraits look like they're been hit with a shovel...
