Speaking of direct to print from pencils, the cartoonist Jim Barry (spelling/first name may be off) of "Barry's World" used those huge preschool pencils that were indelible almost, along with Zipatone, with no inks and his 'toons were printed from that.

Free light table idea: Any window large enough to put your art onto .. flip over, put on window, tape, and redraw on the back, making corrections, perhaps in a different color pencil and then flipping back over, taping onto window and correcting the drawing.
