The best place to put images is on a site that you control.

And here are all of the frequently asked questions:

I forgot my password

If you have forgotten your password, you’ll need to contact me to get a new one. I can’t give you your old password—I don’t know it. Note that it will take me at least a couple of days to get back to you. If you can send the message from the e-mail address listed in your entry, that’s a plus, and if you can send the message from the private e-mail address listed in your entry, that’s even better. (Only do so, of course, if you can actually receive messages sent to those e-mail addresses.)

Is my Comic Ground password secure?

No. Don’t use the same password on the Comic Ground as you use for financial or high-risk accounts. Hoboes.com runs over an insecure web connection, and your password is sent as plain text over the Internet whenever you log in. To mitigate the security issues, your password is only sent when you log in, and a session is then created for you that doesn’t require your password to be continually sent.

On the other hand, even I don’t know your password. Your password is not stored in plain text in the Comic Ground database. It is immediately hashed to an irreversible format. This is why I can’t send you your current password when you forget it—there’s no way for me to figure it out short of guessing what it might be.

When did the Comic Ground shut down?

I shut the Comic Ground down on November 5, 2020. However, there had been no updates to existing entries, or new entries added, since August 21, 2017. That update was probably spam. That’s right: even the spammers were no longer using the Comic Ground. The last real update was an added entry on January 7, 2017, over three years ago.

Where can I put my images?

If you have images or larger files you want to place on the Ground, upload them to one of the many free sites available on the net. There are sites that offer free web hosting, and sites that specialize in image hosting.

You can enter that URL of your site into the web site field on the Comic Ground. You can also link to individual images in your bio or in the sample section: any URL placed in those sections will be automatically linked. (Note that the fields do not support HTML, BBCode, or any other markup.)

Why did you shut down the Comic Ground?

The last real update was an added entry on January 7, 2017, over three years ago; today, there are much better alternatives to the Comic Ground, such as DeviantArt, specialized forums, even sales sites such as Etsy. These are all places where artists can meet, discuss their art, plan ideas, and show off their work. The Internet has changed a lot since I created the Comic Ground back in the nineties, and for artists finding other artists, it has been for the better.

You’ve got spam!

I try not to let spam entries get through, but every once in a while I’m sure I’ll fail. There may also be some spam in the older entries from back when we didn’t worry about web-spam so much.

If you do notice spam, let me know. I’ll try to get a “report this” link working on each page to make it easier for you, but until then just fill out the comments form and let me know the URL or name of the problem entry. Feel free to write about uncontactable entries as well.
