Comic Book Conventions
More Information
- APE
-
The Alternative Press Expo was at one time the premiere west coast alternative venue. Not quite as hot, in my limited experience, as SPX on the east coast, but that’s because we’re all too laid back out here to hang out at a press show. Not sure what it’s up to nowadays.
- Atlanta Comic-Con
-
Comic convention. Atlanta. Georgia. Also, cool image, even if it is a splash page. Might be out of business, their last show according to the site was 2004.
- Back Porch Comics
-
Back Porch Comics, and “SPACE”, the Small Press and Alternative Comics Expo (Columbus, Ohio).
- Big Apple Comic Book, Art, & Toy Show

More about the beer central comics convention, CAPTION. They keep info on previous Captions for you to read in case you’re considering heading out to Oxford for the next one. “Oxford's annual alternative comics convention.”
- Centre National de la Bande Dessinée et de l’Image
-
Something to do with Angoulême and the Musée de la Bande Dessinée. Lots of pictures of people visiting the museum. Lots of pictures of cartoons visiting the museum.

- CFM Designs and Ciao! Publications
-
Besides “Ciao!”, there is a bunch of Legion stuff here, some of Marc’s scripts, and an old report on the 1993 San Diego Con which is worth reading.
- Chicagoland Grand National Comic Book & Toy Convention
-
In St. Charles, Illinois.
- Comic-Con.Com
-
“The World’s Biggest Comic Book Convention”. From Steve Conley and Rick Veitch. Rick does the keynote address. There are some chats and “booths” as well. This is an on-line convention. They are theoretically going to have a portfolio review soon. No “Sailor Moon” tchotchkes.
- Comic-Salon Erlangen
-
Called “the German Angouleme”. A who’s-who of the German publishing scene.

- El Paso Comic Con
-
“Organized by Broken Tree Comics, El Paso’s only nationally distributed comic book publisher.” Looks like the 2010 one is September 11 and 12.
- Festival International de la Bande Dessinée
-
The infamous Angoulême, the major European comics ‘convention’. If I ever went to France, I’d make sure the trip overlapped this event.

- Festival of Cartoon Art
-
Both a fan conference and an academic conference, the Ohio State University Festival of Cartoon Art happens every three years. The next one is 2010.
- Florida MegaCon
-
MegaCon is the annual Florida convention, they say. It’s “the most exciting multimedia event of the year!”
- Florida SuperCon
-
A comic book, anime, and sci fi convention for “South Florida”—currently that means Weston. Looks like they hold one “super convention” each year as well as a smaller con targeted towards anime and another for comic books.
- Heroes Convention
-
Held in the summer in Charlotte, North Carolina, by “Heroes Aren’t Hard To Find”.
- International Comic Arts Forum
-
The annual Georgetown Do. Comes highly recommended by the folks on Comix@. Whoever they were.
- Kings Specialty Stores
-
Looks like an Australian retailer. They have opened their warehouse to the public, however. Theoretically also includes info about Ozcon conventions.
- les Zaps
-
Much information about a comics convention called, I think, “Fêtes de la BD” in “Gers en Gascogne”. Don’t book flights on my say-so, however.

The company diary is the most interesting part of this site. “Here I’ll share all of the fun things we do here as I try and make a business out of another man’s hobby.” Includes Small Press Expo notes.
- Los Angeles Comic Book and Science Fiction Convention
-
“Monthly Comics and Science Fiction Convention has Special Guests each month in addition to a large Dealers Room.”
- Mid-Ohio Con
-
Generally held late fall in... mid-Ohio. I’ll bet you were surprised, hm?
- Midwest Comic Book Association
-
Minnesota has expanded to cover the whole midwest. It looks like their major cons are in Saint Paul in the spring and fall. Information about the con itself is pretty sparse, but they do have free parking. That may not count for as much in the midwest as it does in San Diego, though. Looks like a lot of fun.
- San Diego Comic Con
-
More comics fans than anywhere except Usenet. “The home of the largest comic book and popular arts convention in the world.”
- Small Press Expo
-
“SPX has a unique format of only selling exhibitor space to independent publishers and not to retailers. This provides a very intimate and friendly atmosphere for our creators and fans to mingle. At the same time, there's a wide array of programming for all to enjoy.”
- Texas Comicon

According to the site, “Texas Comicon 2010 is the State's Premiere Pop Culture Event”. Well, Tony DiGerolamo’s there, so it can’t be all bad.

- Zoloworld Toy and Comic Shows
-
“Tables full of vintage toys and comics” in various venues around New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania, the “Eastern Tri-State Area”.
